I am a graduate student currently working on my masters in social work. Prior to returning to school, I worked as an editor and writer. I attended Brown University and I have been babysitting and working as a child caregiver for nearly 20 years.

When I was 13 years old, I took a babysitter certification course and was quickly hired by a lovely family who lived on my street. I babysat for that family for 10 years and had the honor and good fortune of watching those kids grow from 4, 2, and newborn to young adolescents. I still visit them when I am able to return to my hometown and each time I am shocked by how much taller they are than me now. During my time as their babysitter, I would watch them mainly on weekends and during the summer. We would play, I’d make simple dinners, and I would get them to bed.The kids (well, now young adults) still remember all of the imaginative play games I would create (e.g., pretending the floor is lava and that the swing set was a Swiss Family Robinson-esque houseboat), which makes me so very happy.

My other long-term babysitting job lasted for 2 years during college. I worked for a family with two kids (a boy, 5, and a girl, 3) and I would watch them after school 3-4 days/week and all day during the summer. My responsibilities included picking children up from school, driving them to their activities (ballet, swim lessons, sports), going to the playground, playing games at home, (simple) arts and crafts, feeding them dinner, bath-time, and getting ready for bed.

I am now the proud aunt of 3 nephews (9, 6, and 3 yo) and 1 niece (3 yo) and I relish every moment I am able to spend with them. I love babysitting and I get so much joy out of watching kids grow and learn as quickly as they do. I also have been lucky enough to form strong bonds with the parents that I have worked with, and I look forward to getting to work with new families.
