Hi! My name is Alivia, I am a senior at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago. I will graduate with a BFA with a focus in art education as well as art therapy. In my art practice I focus on providing visuals to further understand the human experience. I am very interested in psychology and understanding the development of self. Traveling and experiencing various cultures and people is something I am passionate about. I have traveled to Korea, South Africa, all over Europe, and China, where I lived for eight months my sophomore year of high school. I plan to go into the peace corps after undergrad in hopes of gaining insight into the human experience out side of my familiar privileged experience. I hope to make a difference in any small way I can, and to work with children. Working with children is one of the greatest joys I have experienced. I have been babysitting since I was thirteen and have been working with children since my junior year of high school. I worked in the nursery at my local Unitarian church in my home town, North Carolina, for three years. I worked with infant to two year olds as well as five to nine year olds. My senior year of high school I was a teacher assistant for an art class, as a part of an internship. I worked with kids in kinder garden through fourth grade. I worked with at risk youth in the west side of Chicago, making a mural with them for their community. My most recent experience long term experience working with kids was two summers ago. I cared for a three week old baby girl until she reached three months of age. I worked a couple over nights with this child as well. In my art therapy practice, I hope to specifically work with children. I love watching and helping children grow, learn and develop into their unique self. Even though I am only 21, I am someone who thoroughly looks forward to being a parent. I care deeply for the children I care for and I enjoy everything I learn from caring for kids.
