My name is Beatrice Chesley and I have been working with children from pre-k to fifth grade since I was a sophomore in high school. I tutored a second-grade boy for a year at the Star Learning Center when I was a sophomore; In addition, I was the nanny of a four-year-old girl and I was responsible for picking her up from school, bringing her on the bus and train, bringing her to after-school activities, feeding her, planning activities, and getting her to bed. My most recent job in child-care was an after-school counselor at Allan’s After-School, where I worked from August 2016 to May 2017. At Allan’s, I was responsible for the well-being and care of 30 children every day. I was directly responsible for the care of five children, including school pick up, homework assistance, and end of day drop off. I would also babysit some the children at the after-school program regularly. I have an eleven-year-old sister that I babysit and spend time with regularly. I have a lot of experience with childcare and I love building relationships with the children I take care of. It is important to positively influence children at an early age, especially in an age of such rapid expansion of technology; I encourage the children I take care of to read, draw, talk, and play games that are not limited to i-Pads and television. I find creativity and self-expression crucial to a child’s well-being and growth.
