Hello prolific parents! My name is Melana, but I also go by Lana or Mel. I recently graduated with a BA in Communication at NC State University. I am 22 years old and a native of Park Slope, Brooklyn. With southern hospitality rubbing off on me from my time spent in North Carolina, I exhibit politeness, tolerance, and friendliness everywhere I go. My babysitter experienced evolved when I began babysitting my 8-year old cousin, Rhaven, while her single mom was at work during the day. Rhaven and I had a lot of fun adventures, whether it was going to the arcade, painting, playing imaginary surgeon, going out for frozen yogurt, being not so great mini-golf players (haha), and much more! I have a drivers license and have access to a car, so I would not be exposed to COVID easily, and am currently employing great social distancing and hygienic practices. As a Communication expert, I enjoy conversation with younger children and pre-teens to help them develop skills of their own as well (eg: asking follow-up questions, promoting casual conversation flow with them, employing fun yet critical thinking skills). I am also aware children need their space at times, and in these moments I am not overbearing, but rather watchful and cautious, and naturally protective. (Could also make for a good food break and TV watching time for them!) But because of this, I believe children and pre-teens are able to see my presence as a friend, but also as a safety figure and someone they feel comfortable around. I am open to watching children with disabilities, and treating them with the utmost care and tolerance, and helping them if they need assistance in getting in a vehicle, the bathroom, etc. I took care of my dad while he endured lung cancer, and pride myself on this. I would love for parents to be open with me as well on all their expectations, what kind of activities they would like to be employed, what kinds of meals, and more. My goal is to make you and your family feel safe, and adding a great experience and new friend in the life of your child. Thanks!
