I am from Nashville, Tennessee. My wife and I and our dog just moved to NYC and we live in the Upper West Side on 71st street. I am an avid reader and outdoorsman. I love to cook and unlike many people actually really love to clean, as I am a bit OCD. I am a huge movie-goer and love to go to the theater. On a Saturday morning, you can find me walking my dog in the park while listening to an audio-book. I am adventurous and energetic and love to play of games of all kinds (I am kinda a big nerd). My wife would tell you that I am a child at heart. Growing up I had three major mentors in my life. They shaped who I became, and they are the reason I want to be a manny. I have always loved teaching and even though I no longer want to live overseas and travel, I still want to continue working with kids outside of a traditional classroom setting.
I taught wilderness survival and outdoor education at a traveling, adventure-based camp for teenagers for 3 years called MOONDANCE Adventures. I taught my students scuba diving, white water rafting, and surfing. I also taught anti-bullying practices, lessons on how to disconnect from technology, and how to be a responsible young person. While abroad I was both a mom and a dad to my kids. I had to keep them safe and entertain them. I made sure they kept up with their gear and ate all of their food. I traveled over 75,000 miles with 113 students through 5 different countries. While I will never forget my adventures with my kids, I still miss it every day. I found that while I was the teacher, the truth is my children taught me more than I taught them. Children inspire me because they see the world in a different light than we do. It was the hardest job I have ever had, but it was also the most rewarding. I am CPR, WFR (wilderness first responder), rescue swimmer certified, and I am also a Master Diver.
