Hello, My name is Michael Bobenhausen and I have been teaching, coaching, and providing care and support to students and children for 10 years. Before I go on to describe my various qualifications, accomplishments, and experience, I would like to tell a personal story. I believe that as children we best learn when we have a story, so I cant think of a better way for you to get to know me. When I was 8 years old I was sent down to Houston to visit with grandparents I never really knew. However, I was pleasantly surprised, as my grandfather, Papa, was kind and patient, particularly with me. If he saw me struggle with an assignment or an activity, he would stay by my side until he knew I got it. I had mentioned that my Dad always beat me at chess and that nothing would please me more than to look my father in the eye and say Checkmate! So one morning I woke up and Papa had a fine chess board set up by his favorite chair and I knew what we were doing that day. Each game we played, he asked me,Who is the most important player on the board? After being wrong a few times I finally stumbled onto what he was getting at, I said, Its the King! Without him, the game is over! Thats right, Michael. Now, who do you think the King is? The King is like the president, thats why he has all these guys are around him. Right? Papa smiled and then defeated me in 4 simple moves, using only his pawns and the King. Stunned and being a bit of a sore loser, I just waited for the speech I knew was coming. A King defends his people and prepares them for whats coming. My years in child care have made Papas lesson crystal clear. To me, the King is our children, our students, and the next generation. Without them being prepared for whats coming, the game is over. Whether its my students or my own nieces/nephews, I do my best to nurture, support, and guide those in my care as if our future depended on it. Most recently, I left my position as the Head of Acting for a private dance academy, teaching skills and lessons to children between 5-16 after a year and a half of wonderful work. For 6 years, I was the director of operations for a Summer Day Camp, where our camp attendance and morale was directly effected by my efforts and programs. I have first-aid/CPR certified. I have a BA in English and Theater and recieved my MFA in Acting (Teacher Certification) from UCONN on a full scholarship
