Ive always loved playing/working with children. Throughout High School, I thought seriously about pursuing a career in teaching with focus in Early Childhood Special Education. Before entering my senior year, I spent the summer feeding, playing, and working with disabled children in an orphanage in Benji, China (2011). This experience helped me understand the power of play and nonverbal communication since there was a language barrier. As my interest continued, I spent my senior year working with children as a teachers aid in a classroom for autistic school-aged children in Delaware County. During college, I became quite interested in Political Science and the Law after spending a summer working under the supervision of an attorney in the district attorneys office in Miami, FL (2013). I realized from that experience that I was not particularly interested in Criminal Law but I was quite interested in how policy and law affect children and families. During my junior year of college, I served as an after-school tutor at the local Elementary School in which I worked with children with behavioral and learning differences (2014-2015). After graduation, I spent a year working as a nanny to a 7-year-old girl before ultimately making the decision to go back to school. In 2018, I received my Paralegal Certificate (Community College of Philadelphia, 2018). In addition, I have a Notary License and a Certification in Adult, Child and Baby First Aid/CPR/AED (provided by the American Red Cross). After almost 3 years working as a Paralegal, I realized how separated the job is from direct work with children. It is office-based and sedentary. I thrive on my connection with others and miss the joy of working with children directly. This realization led to my decision to take a break from the legal world to pursue my passion to work with children again.
