Welcome to The Children’s Courtyard in Harrisburg, NC! My name is Monica and I am the school director. I have over 25 years of early childhood experience as well as an associate’s degree in early childhood education. I am a level 3 administrator and am working towards obtaining my bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.
We offer infant care, preschool and private kindergarten programs, as well as a school-age option. Our center provides care and education for children ages six weeks through 12 years.
We have updated technology in our preschool, pre-k, and school-age classrooms! Preschool and pre-k children have iPads with educational apps, as well as soft shapes and letters that interact with the screens. Plus, our preschool class has an Inspire Plus interactive table and our pre-k class will feature a STEAM Workshop with learning experiences in Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Math. For our school-age class, we have iPads, tripods for moviemaking, robots for coding and more!
Our talented staff members each receive multiple trainings each year and are dedicated to each family at our center! We encourage parent participation through various family events, including holiday parties, open houses and more!

At The Children’s Courtyard, we’re inspired by the HighScope educational philosophy. Children’s interests and choices are the foundation of this approach. Teachers challenge and expand children’s thinking with diverse materials and nurturing interactions. In all our programs, children engage in active learning—direct, hands-on experiences with people, materials, and ideas. With the HighScope philosophy, children are working toward four specific goals:
1. To learn through active involvement with people, materials, events, and ideas.
2. To become responsible and confident—ready for school and ready for life.
3. To learn to plan many of their own activities, carry them out, and talk with others about what they have done and what they have learned.
4. To gain knowledge and skills in important academic, social, and physical areas.
In order to meet these goals, children participate in a robust Plan-Do-Review process that promotes problem-solving and critical thinking skills. We provide a strong focus on early literacy, social understanding, physical coordination, creativity, and positive character traits.
The Children’s Courtyard also knows education is not a one-size-fits-all experience. That’s why we created the School Readiness Pathway, to provide parents with educational options and choices. The Pathway is designed to empower you to find the best path for your child.
