Michaela A.

Michaela is a Fashion Designer from Boston, Massachusetts. Her skills consist of sewing, hand sewing, crocheting, knitting, machine knitting, draping, silk screening, drawing, jewelry welding, and printmaking. After graduating from Pratt Institute with her B.F.A. in Fashion, she moved into Brooklyn to continue pursuing her dreams and passion for the arts. For over eleven years, Michaela has been babysitting and mentoring children from ages as young as newborns up to the age of 16. She started her child care experiences as a teacher assistant for a preschool/daycare. She then began to babysit for families and began her experience with infants early on. Michaela also has previous experience working at summer camps with children in elementary and middle school. Lastly, she has experience working at a summer program teaching as a tutor for children in elementary and middle school. One family that she baby sat in particular had a little boy with autism. The family hired Michaela through a recommendation when their child was young. She was able to provide the son with a stable schedule that created stability in his life. She created experiences with him that helped him relax throughout the day. One of their favorite activities was creating collections and being able to find interesting pieces together. She also has had experience baby sitting for a family of three. What she enjoyed most was getting to know every child and being able to create unique customized crafts for each kid as they began to develop their love for different art forms. One of the girls is now 5 and the other are a pair of twin brothers who are now 16. She has been with this family for about 4 years now. She is currently working with several families in New, York and is hoping to expand further. Michaela loves to crochet and create artwork all around New York. Growing up in Boston she was able to experience a tight knit community where she created special bonds with every family and she is hoping to bring that same energy to New York. Michaela enjoys cartoons, disney and Dr. Seuss books. She is also bilingual and can speak Spanish fluently. She is really excited to get to know your child and baby sit for your family! I will often be able to teach the children crafts they love and help them develop a love for a certain craft or be able to apply the craft to their life in a way that helps them with anxiety. I have a background in art therapy as well where I learned about helping children through activities.
