Ware Academy is a college preparatory school for students in Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. The school empowers each student to achieve academic excellence, emphasizing the development of mind, body and character. The primary objectives are to educate the whole child to his fullest potential and for students to acquire a respect and a desire for learning in order to develop into independent, life long learners in preparation for productive and fulfilled lives. The school embraces and appreciates that students possess individual styles.

Ware Academy is a non-profit, non-denominational, non-sectarian independent school founded in 1949. The school promotes ethnic and racial diversity. Moralistic and ethical principles are fostered, enriching students to develop integrity, empathy and compassion for all living things. Ware selects students on the basis of academic potential and developmental readiness without regard to race, color, creed, or ethnic origin.

A nurturing, loyal faculty dedicated to the students individual needs and success provide the foundation for Wares program and environment. Teachers fulfill the schools mission by supporting and challenging each student to meet his potential and to strive to be the best that he can be.

The academic program is rigorous. Students are exposed to the fine and performing arts, instruction in technology, library science, interscholastic athletic competition, and individual life sports when opportunities are available. Wares core curriculum is comprised of language arts and English, mathematics, social studies, science and foreign language. From the onset of the childs learning experience, a strong emphasis is placed on writing across the curriculum, effective communication skills, numeracy and the ability to reason deductively. Skills in good sportsmanship and cooperation are developed at the earliest levels. The school maintains ideal student/faculty ratios in a structured learning environment where a familial atmosphere pervades all aspects of the educational experience. Close communication between the school and the home is maintained by the administration, teachers and parents. The Educational Records Bureau (ERB) Comprehensive Testing Program, which is given to students in Grades 3 through 7, and the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT), given to students in Grade 8, measure a student’s aptitude and achievement in relation to public and independent school norms. The results of the school tests are helpful to the faculty and administration in evaluating the quality of Ware Academy’s educational program as well as its teaching strengths and needs. Test results for individuals students can be reviewed with the Head of School.

Commencing in the Primary School, the sense of community is reinforced with the students. As the students develop, involvement in the community is emphasized to a greater degree so that by the time a student graduates, he has a genuine desire to give back to the community and to be involved in making his world a better place.

Students are provided with leadership opportunities and are empowered to be responsible decision makers and owners of their actions and behaviors, evolving into life long learners who are eager to satisfy their curiosity, uninhibited to question the norm. Students must be able to learn from success and failure. Every situation presents a valuable opportunity for growth. Structure, support, varied methods of teaching, caring and enrichment provide a solid basis for intrinsically motivated young people who are confident and happy, who enjoy healthy relationships with those around them, and who will ultimately be contributing members of society.
