Helping Your Child Adjust:
With each new development in a childs life, there is a period of adjustment. Preschool can be
both an exciting and frightening time for a child. With this in mind, we encourage parents to
meet and converse with their childs teacher and the director before leaving your child for the
first time. Children have many different reactions to being cared for at preschool. Your child
may cry, which is perfectly normal and acceptable. Your attitude will be very important in your
childs adjustment to this new place. Please be pleasant and brief when dropping off you child.
Assure him/her that you will be returning and their day will be full of fun and learning. You may
call during the day to check on the progress of your child. Parents are strongly encouraged to
keep an open dialogue with the staff and directors of GFCDC however, there will be times when
your childs teacher cannot speak to you as they are supervising and teaching other children.
