Children’s Garden of Sparta is a year-round fully accredited and state licensed educational program. It was founded in 1988 and is located at 60 Glen Road directly across from the Sparta Glen Park.

Children’s Garden has been carefully designed to provide the best possible educational experiences for young children infant through six years old. Located on six wooded acres atop Sparta Mountain the school includes spacious sunny classrooms premium learning materials and equipment a children’s library kitchen music room and a multipurpose room. The outdoor play environment has been carefully developed with a tricycle trail tree house sand play area and several large wooden climbers designed to safely challenge young students. There are also nature trails a greenhouse an outdoor art deck and a heated swimming pool for use during the summer camp program.

Our Infant Program is a separate unit of the school both physically and in terms of policies fees and procedures. Located in a separate wing of the building it is separated from the main building by a fire wall and cannot be entered from the main building. There are three large rooms that have been designed into a play space and a learning area a messy area and a nap room. The Infant Program has its own fenced play yard complete with a climber sandbox water table and space for riding toys.

Children’s Garden is open daily from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and offers a variety of programs to suit the needs of both the half-day and full-day student. The school offers stimulating learning experiences throughout the day with morning activities in full swing by 8:30.

Parents interested in a full-day program may choose two three or five full days a week picking a daily schedule to meet their needs. There are two sessions for parents interested in half-day programs. The morning session begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 11:30 a.m. while the afternoon session runs from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Each child may bring a lunch and enjoy eating with his friends from 11:30 to noon for the morning session and from 12:30 to 1:00 for the afternoon session. Parents may choose three four or five morning or afternoon sessions per week.

Children’s Garden also offers a Kindergarten program. The full-day program hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. and parents may vary their schedule between these hours. A three-quarter-day program is also offered from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. This program is limited to those children attending a morning Kindergarten class in the public schools. Both programs balance activities that require sitting and attending with those that are more active and participatory.

Our goals are implemented through a program which combines Art Music Math Readiness Science Language Arts and Motor activities with special events and classroom visitors. Structured teacher-directed activities are planned to integrate all these activities into weekly themes such as Dinosaurs Senses Transportation etc. There are also times for children to play alone or with a small group of their friends. Although infants are very much on individual feeding and sleeping schedules planned activities are included for them too.

SUMMER PROGRAM
During the summer our program moves outdoors. The children have the opportunity to enjoy summer fun while the learning continues. The children enjoy daily group swim lessons nature studies camp crafts and summer games. Summer is also a great time for visits from interesting members of the community.

The summer program is for all children under seven years of age. Our infants and toddlers take advantage of the warm weather by using our water tables and wading pool. The older children swim in our outdoor heated pool. A certified water safety staff teaches the Red Cross water safety program in daily group lessons.

LUNCH PROGRAM
All children are invited to bring their lunches and enjoy this social time with their friends. We are equipped to warm (microwave) or refrigerate lunch when needed. The school provides morning and afternoon snacks and drinks. Special cooking experiences in the children’s kitchen are also a part of our program.

We know how much parents want to know about their child’s day and how little preschoolers are willing to report. A school newsletter is available and distributed the beginning of each month. We also encourage parents to take advantage of our special events like Back-to-School Night Parent-Teacher Conferences and May Teas.
