Hi, my name is Jo Sun. I am a fiber artist. I machine & hand sew, knit, & crochet for over 30 years. I also cross stitch, needlepoint, macrame, design jewelry & rubber stamp.

I live and love to create. When you choose my services I find that teaching others also keeps me current on the latest trends in fashion and art. It’s such a wonderful experience to be able to create something from your own hands. It’s art! It’s your life expressing YOU! Most just call it sewing or crafting. It is an art & a skill that you can always use.

EDUCATION

Date: August 15, 1977 – June 15, 1978
School: Iowa State University
Degree: Textiles & Clothing
Description: At 8 years old I joined 4-H. My mom had bought a sewing machine so that she could learn to sew. I bought my first material, pattern and began. My first sewn project was a navy sleeveless jumper with a back zipper. I received a blue ribbon at the county fair.

In junior high I learned hand sewing in Home Economics class. I kept sewing and making clothes. As time passed I became very good. I entered many local, state & national sewing contests and won several awards and ribbons. I hold the record for Delaware County Girl’s 4-H Dress Revue – choose a pattern, sew the garment, model the garment before judges – in Delaware County, IA for 4 consecutive years. My senior year in high school I also won District competition and my clothing and I were awarded to represent my county at the Iowa State Fair.

I sewed everything I wore to school. I made all the clothing for the rest of the members of my family, including suits for my father while in junior high & high school. As a senior, being more proficient than my Home Economics teacher, I taught my peers who took Home Economics sewing.

I attended one year of college for textiles and clothing at Iowa State University, Ames, IA. Due to my health I withdrew from school.

Since college I have taught sewing to many people who wanted to learn either one-on-one or in a group in IA, AL, TN, MO, MA, and now Los Angeles.

Besides machine and hand sewing, I also professionally knit and crochet. I teach knit and crochet, cross stitch, rubber stamping, and design jewelry.

I am a widow, a mother of a 36 year old son & a 5 year old granddaughter who live in New York state.

In my life I have met many other wonderful fiber artists. We share a common bond – using our creativity to make things from fiber. We are artists. We do not use a paint brush or canvas. Our paint is our fiber and or fabric. Our canvas is the human body.
We are all creative. Finding what you love and creating is one of life’s most exquisite gifts – creating from your own hands.

I teach others these skills – life long skills that never end. Whether sewing on a button, mending a hem, designing a garment, cutting fabric and machine sewing – all are art.

I enjoy meeting new people and sharing my skills. By teaching others I have the opportunity to pass on what I have been taught by my teachers and peers.

May your new skill open up new experiences for you.

I am proud that you have chosen me to teach you this craft. I look forward to working with you in creating your own expression of clothing.

Have a wonderful day!
Thank you,
Jo
