Lisa H. from Germantown, MD As my son said after our last visit "She's really great, probably the best teacher ever!" Benita is very kind, patient, and respectful in instruction and direction. Our family life has changed from frustration/struggling to more relaxed evening time. Being a single parent, her support has been so valuable in setting life skills and education. Thank you Wyzant!

Vourneen O. from Rockville, MD It is such a relief to have found someone who understands our son's needs. Our son is very intelligent but he has executive function disorder/ADHD. He gets STUCK and it is very difficult for him to move past that. Benita is teaching him skills to help him get unstuck such as breaking down his writing assignments or asking for help when he is frustrated. We have only had a few sessions with Benita but we are very grateful to have found her and our son is happy with Benita too.

Rachel F. from Great Falls, VA Benita is a fountain of ideas and extremely creative problem solver. The first key ?problem? she solves is how to relate to your child. Then she dives into discovering what hurdles the child sees interfering with their work, and she comes up with ways to lower and later eliminate those barriers. When she began working with my 10-year-old son, he wouldn't write more than a sentence or two for anything. He had no apparent defects in his physical ability to write, nor cognitive reasons he could not compose written works. Two months after beginning to work with Benita, he is writing a story - and enjoying it! He is regularly completing his assigned writing and even enjoying it. She keeps in touch both with me and with my son?s teacher to let us know what she is doing and give us tips. We are very happy with Benita and heartily recommend her as a tutor for kids who, like our son, have the fundamental ability to do well academically, but are sometimes overwhelmed by the process. Those who expect immediate responses to their emails may at times be disappointed by Benita's response times, which can be a day or two. This is not really a problem for me, as I often take that long myself, and if I ever need her in a hurry, she returns phone calls promptly.

Jesse L. from Gaithersburg, MD Benita is an essential part of our son's support team. She started working with our son (and us) in 8th grade and has been his greatest resource as he entered high school. She works with him and us to develop plans that address current concerns but always has an eye on developing long term strategies. For example, she has developed worksheets that our son can use to stay organized. These strategies have also helped us to structure our communication with him and understand where he is struggling and succeeding. Benita is also extremely helpful in letting us know what is normal teenage behavior, what we can expect from teachers and what additional resources are available.
