Craig G. from Berkeley, CA I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Susanne! A little over a year ago my ward had been admitted, and was attending, a high profile upper-level learning institution. Unfortunately, early in the semester it became evident that he did not possess the critical thinking, self-regulatory, and writing skills that were needed to be successful in his new learning environment. He had been raised in a first generation household that had not been able to support his educational process, and being a smart boy he had created a set of educational survival tools that helped him get through his schooling with aspects of success, but with gaps that were not apparent until getting into a major college. It became apparent that he would need to leave school and come back to Los Angeles to regroup. While I wildly scrambled to understand what the essence of his issues were, and tried to create a plan of action to help him, I saw Susanne's profile on WyzAnt and contacted her to see if she might be a good fit for my ward. It was immediately apparent that she was! Her expertise in educational psychology, her teaching background, and the immediate sense of empathy that i felt from her when I first contacted her, immediately convinced me that she would be a great fit. With professional compassion, she diligently sat across from him and empathetically pushed him to work harder than he believed he was capable of! She introduced him to concepts in self regulation so that he could structure himself in a more constructive way. She also helped him gain insight into where his own learning had been side tracked, by using a curriculum that she teaches at USC on educational psychology. She drew things out of him that I believe he never knew he had, and she was able to keep him learning at the edge of his limits where, which seem to be where the biggest gains were garnered. She helped him to start thinking of himself as a different kind of learner who could take charge of his own learning experience, instead of expecting it to be presented to him. As for myself, Susanne helped me become a better educational facilitator. She relayed to me new language and strategies that have been a tremendous help when mentoring my ward through a myriad of subjects, which only months before I could never have imagined myself being able do. By talking with her, and by observing her in action I have been able to model her in various ways that have made a huge difference in my approach to the educational support I give my ward. I will always be grateful to her for all of her hard work, warmth, and compassion!
Jenny K. from Arcadia, CA Ms. Susanne had made effective use of a variety of available materials to tutor my 8 year old daughter. She used logical, purposeful and thought-provoking questions, and also provided interesting and adequate reinforcement during the course of tutoring my daughter.
