In the U.S. about 15 million children under six are potentially in need of day care. Ohio kids make up 571,000 of that 15 million. These numbers are pulled from the 1.3 million families in the state, who are a part of the 34.5 million families nation-wide.
4 percent of the child care centers in the state are nationally accredited.
There are a total of about 5,800 child care centers in Ohio. The U.S. has over 2.6 million. Throughout the centers in the state, there are more than 450,000 slots for children to attend daycare in Ohio.
Day care in Ohio is actually less expensive than in most other states.
The average parents pay about $7,800 each year on child care for their infant, but parents in other parts of the U.S. may spend anywhere from $4,500 to $20,000. While parents in Ohio are paying an average annual cost of $6,300 on child care for four-year-olds, other parents throughout the country are averaging as much as $15,000 each year.
