Hello lovely families!!
My name is Alicia McCarthy! I am a 24 year old woman looking for part time work as a nanny or sitter. I am currently in the application process for Swarthmore college and University of Virginia to study Religion, in order to become an interfaith Chaplain/mental health worker, and at this time, I am looking for work while I prepare myself mentally for this shift. Prior to this transition, I’ve spent the last several years training to become a vegetable seasonal farmer. I love growing food, but caregiving is my calling. While i feel drawn to work as a caregiver for those struggling with mental illness, I have always loved my time working with children. I’ve had a number of jobs as a nanny/babysitter over the years, and I grew up with five siblings and have been around/taking care of babies and small children since I was a young one myself! The reason I want to work in childcare is because I genuinely love kids, and I find it truly nourishing to spend time with them and support them in their development. Communing with the spirit of curiosity, joy, and creativity that dwells within young people is a source of real happiness for me. I love to spend time with kids (and babies too!) outside- exploring, walking, chatting, scavenging, wondering- all in an effort to learn more about ourselves, our neighbors/siblings/friends, and our natural world. I think this is incredibly important. I also love to cook for and play with and read for young ones. I am a musician and would love to play music for/teach guitar if young ones had any interest in that. I am patient, observant, joyful, and responsible. I really care about the mental and physical health of the kids I am entrusted to care for and would take that very seriously. I am a strong believer, as mentioned, in outside time, but also in quiet time and independent learning/exploration time. For these reasons, I hope you’ll consider me as a nanny for your wonderful little people, and if you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them.
