I have watched my nephew and my god brothers since they were infants, and have enjoyed the small things they do like little high pitched sounds and the weird faces they make. As Ive watched my nephew grow into a toddler and god brothers into adolescents, Ive appreciated not only the learning curbs but also being a part of their progression in growth. I love being able to help them when they needed me for handling their emotions and helping them solve problems they couldnt figure out like knowing which shoe goes where and how to hold or pour things and why theyre done as such. For example, my nephew is a toddler and I make sure he knows he can always practice pouring his own cup as long as a bigger person is with the little one, and helping along the way. I have also worked with 5th graders for a few months before they wrapped up for their winter break and seeing them be excited over challenging themselves made me happy for them, in a sense I am preparing myself for parenthood because I give as much love as I have and teach the values of certain skills that a child in any stage of growth could learn to value as well. Listening, understanding, and applying will get them far in progressing through life, and far is where I feel those skills have gotten me in my life as well.
