I enjoy interacting with children, and help nurture their independence. I strongly believe in allowing children to explore what they really want to do and learn the natural consequences (positive/negative) on their own with an adult present to help them understand the outcomes. I have been babysitting since I was 15 years old and have learned that I enjoy caring for children. I am currently a teacher’s assistant in a special education classroom, where I mostly work with students who have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) Through my job I have gained much experience and training on working with ASD children, I assist the special ed teacher with accommodating the lessons for each child, and ensure that the child meets their goal per their Intervention Education Plan (IEP) I have vast knowledge on how to help a child regulate their emotions, and how to handle a child when they are going through a very hard time. I am able to communicate with nonverbal kids through basic sign language, and also be able to teach the child basic signs to help them be able to communicate better with adults. I am available in the afternoon during the weekdays and during the weekends as well, I know how to drive, and I know how to perform CPR and First Aid.
