As an older sister I think the best part of caring for children is building relationships with them. I really cherish the moments where im apart of a childs growth and development. Babysitting helps me improve my time management skills & my creativity. i love learning something new from little ones it helps me understand how they see the world and also makes them feel comfortable enough to communicate and builds better connections . As the oldest sister in the household I do have lots of experience caring for children, Even with special needs. I have twin brothers with autism & a little sister. Being their big sister has taught me so much patience and empathy. In the beginning things were tough because I wasnt so used to not only being a sister but a sister to someone with special needs. Our differences made it hard for me to interact with them. I had to understand patience is everything when it comes to caring for autistic children. There were times where I couldnt understand how my brothers were feeling because they were non verbal at one point. using hand gestures and signals helped get a better understanding of what they needed or were trying to say. Even when it came down to being upset,
words werent always the best coping mechanism. sometimes wed have to stim together to calm down or put on relaxing animal sounds. throughout the years theyve become way more verbal and active , they are currently in 3rd grade sky rocketing through books and lessons and as a big sister i couldnt be any prouder. If anything sets me apart from others it would be being very trustworthy, or overly trustworthy if thats a thing. I have a natural overprotective nature, anyone or anything around me will always be safe even when no one is around. im able to think fast on my feet and dependable. i enjoy not only interacting with the children Im caring for but the families as well , making sure we have amazing relationships and communication. sharing moments with families even little ones count. sometimes as a child care giver i witness things families miss out on even the beautiful moments like taking first steps , first words even funny moments
