Hi!

I am Sophie: a performance artist, educator, and creative collaborator raised in St. Louis, MO, living in Brooklyn, NY. I hold a BA in Theatre and Dance, and use this training to understand and better the world around me. I recently completed the Executive Directorship of a non profit in St. Louis, centered on immersive art experiences and workshops for students aged 5-12.

I am currently seeking work in direct childcare. I am looking forward to slowing down a bit, and focusing my attention on much smaller groups- from one child to five children.

I’ve worked in Montessori preschools (ages 0-5), public schools (ages 5-15), private art workshops (ages 4-12), and one-on-one in home nannying (ages 3-14, from 1-5 children at a time) over the last 16 years.

I promote a curiosity-led, liberation-centered pedagogy which draws on the philosophies of Maria Montessori and Augusto Boal, of Theatre of the Oppressed fame. These theorists uplift education as a means to liberation, and ultimately, to regaining our humanity. This looks like child-directed play, respected boundaries, and curiosity-building activities.

I am currently CPR and First Aid (Infant- Adult) certified and competent.
