I work as a caregiver companion/mentor for young adults, teens. Currently I take care of a 26-year-old young adult male with special needs who is none verbal. I absolutely love my job and the fulfillment it brings.
I also help on a part-time basis two semi verbal special needs 14 year old. With each I assist in going to the community outings, preparing meals/feeding, helping engage in public in stores, taking care of him and also for his morning and bedtime routine and hygiene assistance. I also have been working part time with another teen that has down syndrome, going for walks, pool time, movie time at theaters, I go to his school musicals as well to support him, play just dance etc. I have a PHD in the “big brother” role with a minor in being your child’s HYPE MAN of encouragement! Also a 15 year old teen that I help with in the morning routine and school drop off in Highland Park High. He is verbal and on the spectrum, my big thing with him is coping mechanisms since he is prone to self harming, and it has come a long way.
