I am an older sister, and some of my favorite memories from my childhood are from babysitting my little siblings and younger cousins. I’ve always loved working with kids, so much so that at 10 years old, I combined this love with my extensive dance experience and started assisting and teaching dance classes at my home studio. Although babysitting and assisting/teaching are somewhat different, I feel that my 5 years of volunteer experience prepared me well to not only work with kids, but to interact with and have fun with many (up to 12 sometimes) at once. At 15, I moved to Chicago alone and lived on my own for 6 months so I could start as a pre-professional student at Joffrey. Thus, I stopped with my assisting, but I still find that my knowledge and love of dance make taking care of kids just that much more fun! After all, who doesn’t love making up silly routines to showcase to their parents? Besides dance, I also love learning and sharing knowledge with others. I am now a first year at Columbia University, and I’d be happy to assist with any homework, reading, or tutoring (or even dance training) while babysitting! Overall, I’m a very energetic person- my friends would say I’ve very much preserved my childlike playfulness- however, my experiences as an older sister, ballet dancer, and determined student have made me extremely responsible and a great problem solver.
