Hello! I’m a junior in college in California and originally from New York City. I attended the Brearley School for 13 years, where students of all ages are intentionally in connetion with younger students. Watching younger students go through the same processes of learning, making friends, and figuring out who they are was what initially sparked my passion for working with children. Past that, I was a summer camp counselor at the 92nd Street Y for a group of 15 children aged 2-3 (preschool) and, following that experience, babysat for multiple families whose children I had been a counselor for (some of the families also had older children around ages 8-10, so I also have experience there). As a counselor, I supervised the children, brought them to the various activities of the day, and helped design art and play activities for them to do while in the classroom. I loved being a camp counselor because I got to both connect with individual campers, see what they liked, how they learned, and who they were as individuals, and then see how they connected and played with other campers. That is the core of why I love working with children: I love to listen to them, talk with them and nurture their open and curious minds. I am in school for Global Studies (anthropology, english, history) and Modern Art Markets and Ethics (art history, ethics), so I intellectually know the value of open and curious questioning and conversation for building the foundation for strong critical thinking skills that will lead to even more curiosity and growth. I have skills in creating and discussing art, I have extensive knowledge of the natural world from obsessive nature documentary watching and supplemental classes, I have intermediate Mandarin skills, I have basic music theory knowledge and am very passionate about music in general, I am a confident chef and can both prepare food and teach children the basics of cooking, and I am very familiar with NYC so am comfortable getting your children wherever they need to be in the city.
