My most recent experience is as a Special Education Teacher at the elementary level. I have instructed students diagnosed with a variety of developmental disorders and
co-occurring mental health disorders. My core teaching experience has been working in elementary level self-contained classrooms teaching students with autism spectrum disorder, speech/language disorder, and attention-deficit disorder. In this role, I have been responsible for
designing and leading instruction, writing and implementing IEPs, maintaining accurate behavior and academic data, assigning roles and training paraprofessionals, and ensuring each student is receiving personalized instruction that best accommodates their individual needs and learning styles. Most recently, I have worked with students with severe cognitive impairments on fostering their development in the areas of socioemotional skills, communication skills, self-help skills, and emerging academic skills, and ensuring students are included in the general education setting with modified instruction. I am also passionate about creating and implementing Positive Behavior Support plans that include behavior intervention techniques specific to each student. I am excited to dive deeper into content and to create new hands-on, functional lessons that align with my future students IEP goals. My background in psychology helps me to understand my students thoroughly in order to implement research-based strategies with personal modifications. My heart has always been in special education with a focus on students individual needs.
