Write a messageHi! My name is Emani. I am currently a student studying Early Childcare Education and Development. I am a very hardworking, independent student who enjoys working with children. I am also cpr and first aid certified with all of my clearances.
Ever since I was younger, I have always had dreams of becoming a teacher and working with kids. Normally when kids say they want to be something when they grow up, they end up changing their minds as they get older. I am incredibly surprised that this dream has stuck with me all these years. Being around kids gives me this feeling of joy that nothing else can give me. Looking at these innocent lives being happy and having no care in the world about what is going on makes me so happy. It makes me feel safe knowing that our children are out having a fun time despite all the sad things happening. As a toddler, I started playing with dolls and bears. When I got a little older and learned how to talk, I would use those bears and create a class out of them. I used to create worksheets, give the bears names, and even give them lectures. I also sat at my desk after each class and graded their papers even though I was the one who did the work. I stopped in middle school because I realized I was getting older, and I should be spending time together with friends instead of playing with bears. I think that having the creativity and imagination at such an early age helped me prepare my interest for a career in education. When I was about ten years old, I had my first experience with an infant. My mother would always watch my baby cousin, and I would be there to help her because I thought it would be fun. She allowed me to feed him and change his diaper. That is when I knew that I would be good at taking care of a young child. Another experience I have had is when I would go to Georgia every summer and there were a lot of kids around, and I was the oldest. I was a teenager, and my family members would always have me watch over the little ones while they were doing other things. I just played around with them and kept them occupied so that they would not know their parents were gone. I also helped in a tutoring center I attended in middle school. I would help the grades below me study, complete assignments, change diapers, provide food and snacks, etc. It was fun for me because for once I got to be the adult and take care of someone else. They were always so clingy, and I did not understand their needs at the time because I was still young, but now I realize that they were just comfortable with me being around. Having children comfortable with you is the most important part of babysitting or even being a teacher because if you do not have their trust, it is hard to create that relationship. I am happy that I had the chance to have so much experience as a teenager. My interest grew bigger within the last couple of years because I have been dealing with kids from infants to five years old. They are usually close friends, so I always just did it for fun, never a fee added. With the infants, I just fed them, changed diapers, and gave them a lot of attention. The older kids just wanted something to keep them quiet like a tablet or tv, but after a while we would do a different activity that did not involve electronics. It is hard for me to say no, so telling them that they could not have too many snacks or juice and explaining why was a little harder for me. Overall, I have had multiple interactions that have helped me decide to seek a career in early childhood. Even though it is just at home and not a professional setting, I still feel as though I learn so much from the kids. It feels good to have people ask you to watch their child. It makes me feel like I am reliable and trustworthy, the fact that someone trusts me to be with their little one for an entire day or even longer. We have so much fun whether its going to the park, watching tv, playing with Legos or putting puzzles together. I really enjoy caring for the kids and learning with them, which is why I am confident that this is the career for me.
