Hello! My name is Mary Rose Lowman and I am a recent college graduate living in the Pittsburgh area. I worked as a camp counselor at a science-based summer camp for three years. My first summer, I worked as a general assistant counselor assisting children of all ages. The next summer, I worked as a junior counselor with children in first and second grade. My third year, I worked as a senior counselor with children in fifth and sixth grade. Additionally, I worked two summers at a Christian Literacy Program, where I acted as both a tutor and a counselor working with a child one-on-one to learn fundamental reading and writing skills. The children I worked with were ages five and six. During my time working at camps, I grew experienced working with children with special needs including physical, emotional, intellectual, and learning disabilities. I have also worked with children with food allergies. Additionally, I spent three years working as a teaching assistant in a religious education program. During this time, I worked with second, third, and fourth graders. I also worked as a library assistant in the children’s section of the Pleasant Hills Public Library for several years on an as-needed basis. In college, I took courses in subjects such as education, child psychology, and adolescent development that give me a special understanding of the needs of children. My long-term goal is to one day become a social worker and work with children and adolescents. I love art, music, reading, theatre, and being outdoors. I am more than willing to help your child with any type of homework or tutoring needs. I am very pet-friendly and am experienced taking care of dogs. I have been taking social distancing very seriously and am certified as a COVID-19 contact tracer from John Hopkins University. As a result, I fully understand the necessary precautions to take and promise to keep you and your family as safe as possible. I am very excited to meet you and your family!
