I believe that early childhood education should allow children to explore their autonomy and individual development while making sure care and love are always available. I approach each child with curiosity and patience and work hard to ensure each child has what they need to thrive and grow. when I begin working with a family, I present options for daily schedules that will provide a sense of familiar rhythm to the day, while leaving room in the spaces for something engaging to sway our course. I have worked with young children in preschool, daycare and home settings for 7 years. As a full-time nanny and quarantine teacher for two lovely children (3 and 5) I developed a curriculum both to complement the older childs zoom preschool and to prepare the younger child for preschool; our curriculum included emotional grounding in the morning, reading and math basics, cultural diversity, and consent/how to advocate for oneself. my classroom experience includes serving as the lead teacher for ages 18mo-5 years at Mama Mellis Childcare in Austin, and most recently as a classroom teacher for the 2s class at Congregwtion Beth Israels child development center. both schools are Reggio Emilia informed, which has greatly informed my own educational philosophy. More recently, Ive been tutoring middle and high school students in academic writing and test prep.
