Y Early Childhood Program at St. Albans

At Y’s Time, our goal is to guide children as they learn to make positive choices about their behavior. The focus is on preventative discipline that may include setting clear behavior expectations,informing children of consequences, follow through, consistency, redirection and the use of humor. Children are encouraged to talk through their problems when conflicts arise and to make choices to correct inappropritae behavior, with the teachers acting as mediators rather than problem solvers. It is the goal of the discipline philosophy to allow children to “own their behaviors” and learn to make good choices. The Greater Burlington YMCA strives to meet the needs of all children enrolled in YMCA childcare programs. In order to ensure the success of every child, a variety of resources may be explored. Intervention strategies may include various behavior modification strategies, environment and expectation adjustments, family involvement and/or community professional resources.
