Hyland Hills Extended Daycare Sunset Ridge

The ACYI has formalized a system to assess and prioritize the issues contributing to youth delinquency throughout Adams County. As an outgrowth of this effort, a need was recognized for identifying, evaluating and supporting after-school programs.

At DA Quicks request, a year ago a group of interested citizens in Adams 50 began the After-School Task Force. Our goal was to look at the after-school programs in the school district and find out if there was a need to expand these programs. The Adams 50 After-School Task Force (ASTF) is comprised of representatives from schools, Hyland Hills Recreation District, and community members.

In previous years Hyland Hills offered fee based after-school programs in seven of Adams 50 schools. Due to declining attendance, Hyland Hills re-evaluated the program and in turn opened three of its Community Centers as free after-school club sites for our kids. All three of these sites are adjacent to Adams 50 schools. By working with the principals of these schools, the participation has increased from 80 visits per month a year ago to 800 visits per month this year. The success of these programs can be attributed to Hyland Hills and the schools working together to define and overcome obstacles.

The education of our children is not something that happens solely within the school house walls. Teaching, learning and caring for our children is a community effort. Please join us in creating a vision for comprehensive after-school programming.
