Cooper Elementary Safe

TRANSPORTATION – SCHOOL AGE-EXEMPT
The School Age Fun and Enrichment (SAFE) Program is a self-funded licensed school-age childcare program for K-5 students that was begun in 1986. Supervised by a caring and attentive staff SAFE child care is provided before and after school at all three elementary buildings. It runs from 6:30 AM until 6:00 PM each school day. It is also available during half days and on snow days and special days when school is closed. Space is limited so please sign up early for those special dates. Our newsletter will indicate which days we will be available. Please call the SAFE Program office at (269) 685-3103 if you have questions about availability registration fees and/or billing. SAFE will be available for children from all 3 elementary schools.
Cooper will be open from 6:30 AM until 6 PM on school days. Starr and Gilkey will be combined at Gilkey in the morning from 6:30 AM until school starts which allows Starr children to bus to Starr. In the afternoon Starr and Gilkey will be combined at Starr until 6 PM to allow Gilkey children to bus to Starr.

KinderSAFE currently runs at both Cooper Elementary and at the Early Childhood Education Center (located next to Hicks gym). KinderSAFE is designed to help Kindergartners be successful in Kindergarten. Next year Plainwell will be going to an all day Kindergarten program. KinderSAFE will be replaced by Plainwell Corners Preschool Daycare with a Preschool Curriculum. Both KinderSAFE teachers Jane Perry and Elaine Helgren will be teaching at Plainwell Corners with the assistance of the current teachers Chris Barres and Anne Wallace.
