Crestwood Hills Nursery School has been a cooperative since it opened in 1953. We are part of a California-wide organization of cooperative nursery schools with thousands of members. We are proud of our history and the community weve built. Every family that comes to Crestwood changes the school in some unique way. Most of us find that the school changes us too.

Our guiding philosophy is: respect the uniqueness and dignity of each individual child. We believe that children learn through play and that play is their work at this point in their development. Children are the architects of their own education; given a rich environment of possibilities and a minimum of adult intervention, children will learn to make choices, resolve coNFLicts, and solve problems. This triadmaking choices, resolving coNFLicts, and solving problemsis the foundation for many later adult needs, including self-esteem, yet they arent specifically taught at any level of formal education. We believe that making it the basis of childrens first experience with school prepares them for a lifetime of learning.
