Parkdale Elementary built in 1955 was built adjacent to the old Midland Airfield. The property was purchased from the city of Midland in 1948. This school was designed by Midland architect Alden B. Dow.
The original building dedicated on January 10 1956 had 11 classrooms and was home to nine classroom teachers nine auxiliary teachers and 288 students. An addition to the west end of the building was built during the 1967-68 school year.
Parkdale was originally named East Nelson School. On November 8 1955 at the request of the first PTA President Nelson V. Colwell the MPS Board of Education agreed to change the name to Parkdale Elementary (Fairview Elementary was a second choice).
The building has only had four principals during its history.
