Center in Morganton, NC 28655
In counties across North Carolina, educators and children’s advocates are recruiting children who most need help before they start kindergarten—low-income children who have never been in child care. Children who qualify will spend the rest of the school year in state funded NC Pre-K classes building skills for school success, at no cost to their parents.
NC Pre-K is administered by Burke County Smart Start. Through collaboration with Burke County Public Schools and Private Child Care Centers, we served 464 eligible four-year olds in 2010/2011.
There are 24 classrooms in the school system, as well as programs available in Head Start, and two private child care centers. Currently, approximately 371 children are receiving services. Children must be four (4) by August 31, 2012 to enroll in the 2012-13 NC Pre-K school year.
