H.O.P.E. Cub House After-School Program is a Texas Department of Family and Protective Services licensed child care facility. It is designed to promote the academic future of the students of Olney ISD in the kindergarten through 6th grade. We concentrate on homework and build upon academic skills. We believe education is the key to a successful future and as such it is our goal to help each student achieve academic success. We take the program very seriously but we also understand that children need a fun loving and nurturing environment for learning. While we serve a large number of students in our program we try to give each child as much one-on-one attention as possible by maintaining a caregiver to student ratio of 1:10. Our employees are compassionate and eager to meet a child’s individual needs. We are dedicated to providing a safe successful and professionally supervised program and environment for the students. We strive to develop positive self-esteem for each student as well as social skills that will be crucial to success later in life.
Parent school and community involvement is essential to the success of our program. We speak to each parent every day to maintain and open line of communication and address issues immediately when it is necessary. We also maintain weekly contact with the teachers and principals to track student progress and to be aware of what areas each student needs extra assistance with. Members of the community volunteer for homework help and organized activities to promote the concept that “it takes a village to raise a child.”
The success of our program has been proven repeatedly by students who before attending H.O.P.E. Cub House had poor attendance grades and self-esteem but since being enrolled have started enjoying attending school grades have improved and have developed a positive self-concept. For example one our 2nd grade students last year came to us at the end of the second six weeks grading period. She had failing grades in the three subjects as well as poor attendance. By the end of the 3rd six weeks she was passing all of her classes and by the 4th six weeks she was on the Honor Roll and had Perfect Attendance. On average 47% of our students achieve perfect attendance and/or honor roll each six weeks grading period. The teachers principals and superintendent of Olney ISD support the program and are consistently referring more students.
