Moultrie Montessori School LLC opened in St. Augustine in 2008 to serve the educational needs of children ages three through eight (Primary and Lower Elementary classes).
Named after its creator Dr. Maria Montessori the Montessori Method has the purpose of meeting the developmental needs of children by preparing an environment that is rich in activities that involve the child in his own education and match the activities to the interests of the child at different stages of development.

Before becoming the first woman doctor in Italy Maria Montessori was trained in math and the sciences particularly biology. Consequently she approached her work with children as an observer of natural phenomena. She began by simply observing children determining their needs based on her observations and then designing and experimenting to find the best ways of meeting those needs. From this she developed a unique philosophy which for more than a hundred years has made it possible for children to develop their full potential. It is a philosophy and method which speaks to the spirit of the developing child through time and across cultures.
