The Pinellas County Licensing Board defines a good childcare program as one that offers children a healthy social educational experience under qualified supervision in a safe nurturing and stimulating environment. It allows children to learn new skills though enjoyable age appropriate play and build self-esteem though positive interactions between children as they learn self control and how to get a long with others.

Preschool education is usually a child’s first step into becoming a social being other than with their immediate family. It is an experience in which the child has to learn to interact with many children. It is a time to learn to follow simple rules and to share with others.

Play is how children learn about the world around them. At this age play and social interaction are much more important than academics. As each child matures at a different rate not every child in a group will be at the same developmental age. Play activities will be varied to accommodate various developmental levels among the children.

It is the teacher’s job to develop and nurture in every child a strong positive feeling of self worth. With this basic early strength they will be equipped to meet life’s needs and challenges. This is the most important objective of Early Childhood Education.
