We want to empower children to become confident secure and caring people. The basic premise of our curriculum is that children are active learners who learn best from activities they plan and carry out themselves. Children require activities to play set goals and to take responsibility. Teaching is the ability to provide experiences which children learn from and to be there to stimulate questions and help the child find new answers and new challenges. Teaching is also helping children achieve the confidence and self-discipline to develop increasingly more sophisticated skills and knowledge.
Our curriculum is structured on a series of daily routines. Homebase furnishings learning centers and the playground are planned to allow children to explore discover and learn through developmentally appropriate ptay. Children need challenge and opportunities to practice and master skills. This environment also allaws staff to focus on moments of one to one or small group care.
It is the goal of The Children’s Workshop of the Catskills to provide a loving caring environment where children can develop a good self image and establish positive and sound inter-personal relationships. We understand that each child is unique. We must respect his or her needs desires and thoughts.
Our staff has the patience to work with the child’s own pace and tempo. Yet with our individualized educational plan we will attempt to challenge each child in a non stressful manner. Staff sets up the necessary limits for behavior and helps children internalize rules for safety sharing and for cooperating. We stress importance of self -respect and respect for others.
Structured and non-structured activities are interspersed. Creativity is fostered and freedom to explore a variety of materials is encouraged.
