Standard American educational philosophy states that we send students to school to make them active worthwhile and productive members of society. I found this philosophy to be totally acceptable during the early part of my teaching career. My personal belief and vision of schools changed dramatically with the birth of my own children and the eventual enrollment of my daughter Emily in school.
