Center in Syosset, NY 11791
Founded in 1953 the Midway Jewish Center is a progressive Conservative synagogue affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
In 2007 Bethpage Jewish Community Center (BJCC) and Midway Jewish Center consolidated to become a new house of worship for Jews in the area. BJCC a traditional Conservative synagogue had faithfully served the Jewish community for close to 50 years. The new joint synagogue has pooled its resources to create one of the outstanding Conservative synagogues on the North Shore of Long Island.
As a 780-family congregation Midway has the power to support a broad range of activities yet is small enough to maintain a sense of intimacy. A balance of age groups from young children to senior citizens assures commitment to the needs of young and old alike.
A core belief at Midway is that preservation of Jewish life requires both a committed Jewish family and a strong Jewish Community. Thus there is a strong emphasis on family education and involvement as well as communal religious observance. Religious services are held on each Shabbat morning and evening. Services are also held daily morning and evening.
As a progressive Conservative synagogue Midway seeks to preserve a sense of tradition that continues to evolve. Women have assumed leading roles in our religious services. Interfaith families have found a spiritual home for themselves at Midway.
Our community also adheres to strict standards of kashrut and regular religious services deviate little from traditional formats. This facility is authorized to administer over-the-counter topical ointments only
