MISSION STATEMENT

Working Mission Statement:

To create a student-centered, hands-on, interactive garden learning environment to support

grade-level cross-curriculum objectives (especially science education); environmental education; health and wellness education including the importance of nutrition, exercise, sun safety and safety; social education including hunger and poverty issues; childrens wellness, curiosity, imagination, and exploration; and parent and community involvement.

The garden will be maintained, as far as possible, using sustainable practices:

conserving water by planting native plants and using mulch, rain barrels, soaker hoses, etc.; reducing, re-using and recycling materials; promoting soil health through use of compost, cover crops, etc.; and practicing integrated pest management
