Early Childhood program exposes students to an overview of child development from birth to age 8 and provides training for working with children. Some Career paths include: teaching employment in day care or child development centers social work recreational leaders and other child service fields. The student will learn about the developmental stages of growth in children including intellectual physical social and emotional development. Students will also gain knowledge about health safety developmentally appropriate activities communication skills and how to incorporate parental involvement. This is a field that dramatically shapes and influences the lives of children. Student skills are learned through good communication techniques written observation note taking interpersonal skills decision making problem solving teamwork and leadership. Goals are achieved through a combination of classroom work; observing children from the observation booth; and through the hands-on experience of working in our onsite licensed preschool. Students execute lesson plans in the preschool where knowledge gained in the classroom is put into practice. Second year students have the opportunity to obtain a Child Development Associate Credential Certificate (CDA) and/or college credits.
