The Priscilla Pond Flawn Child and Family Laboratory of the University of Texas at Austin is sponsored by the Department of Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) in the School of Human Ecology. As a part of HDFS the Child and Family Laboratory is a facility for training and for student and faculty research.
The purposes of the Priscilla Pond Flawn Child and Family Laboratory are:

3. To provide a laboratory in which university students may observe participate and study children under supervision of trained teachers.
4. To provide a facility for research in human development and family relationships at The University of Texas at Austin.
5. To serve as a model program of high quality care of young children to the community.
The Priscilla Pond Flawn Child and Family Laboratory is certified by the Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services and meets the licensing requirements for day care centers. The Laboratory is also accredited by the National Academy of Early Childhood Programs. The Academy recognizes program which meet national research-based standards of high quality in early childhood programs.
The Laboratory operates three toddler groups with each group meeting two mornings a week. Six children are enrolled in each group. These groups are for children 18 to 35 months of age as of September 1 of the current academic year. The child’s chronological age determines in which group the child is placed.
Two morning and two afternoon preschool groups meet Monday through Thursday. Morning groups meet 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Afternoon groups meet 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Up to fifteen children are enrolled in the 3-year-old classes which are referred to as the younger classes. The older classes for children who are four-years enroll up to sixteen children.
Eighteen five-year-olds are enrolled in the 5-year-old class which meets 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Children are selected for the program using the following criteria: birthdate date of application and gender. Preference is given to siblings of children already enrolled in the program. In addition high priority is given to families who have had children previously enrolled. The child’s age as of September 1 is used to determine in which group the child is placed. We strive to have a balance of gender in each class.
