Virginia Child Development Center

Virginia Avenue Elementary School is one of three schools comprising the
Fairfax School District. The district opened its doors in 1891 with eight students the
children of rural farmers. The location chosen was seven miles from the intersection of
Truxtun & Chester Avenues; at the time this was considered the center of the small but
developing town of Bakersfield.
