SCHOOL AGE – PRESCHOOL – INFANT/TODDLER -
Creative Kids Learning Center makes use of a variety of theoretical perspectives: learning theory as described by Gagne Piagetian principles the social learning theory of Bandura and Mischel and Eriksonian theory. In addition the program encompasses many of the latest research findings in child development and early childhood education.
The Curricular Domains Ultimate Goals and Intermediate Goals contained herein are products of the Child Development Laboratories Michigan State University. The guidelines for Promoting Development and the Sample Activities were developed by Early Childhood Education Task Force Traverse City Area Public Schools.

How Children Develop -
The following principles represent our beliefs about the ways in which children develop:
*Children develop emotionally. intellectually physically and socially.
*All areas of development are equally important.
*All areas of development are interrelated and affect one another.
*Children develop as a result of interactions among biological and environmental influences.
*Development is sequential; childrens abilities and understandings emerge in predictable order.
*Rates of emotional intellectual physical and social development vary within each child and from child to child.
*The early childhood years represent a critical period in childrens lives for developing either positive or negative perceptions of self.
*Each child develops at his or her own pace.
*Children are naturally curious and exploratory continually striving towards competence.
Beliefs About Learning -
Throughout the past two decades a substantial body of research has been generated regarding optimal learning environments for young children. It has been discovered that children learn best when:
*They feel comfortable and secure.
*They have opportunities to use play to translate experience into understanding.
*The curriculum is designed to enhance all aspects of their development.
*They have opportunities to learn those things that are important to them at the moment.
*Activities are designed so that information concepts and skills are presented repeatedly and in varied ways.
*Their progress is systematically assessed and used as a basis for future instruction.
Tasks of Childhood -
Children between the ages of two and seven are working on several complex developmental tasks. Some of these include:
