The Episcopal Day School believes in implementing a strong academic program with particular emphasis on the basic academic skills and encouraging each child to strive to attain his/her maximum potential. We further believe in guiding each child in his/her spiritual growth fostering a love for learning and instilling in each child a respect for himself and others. It is our intent that these beliefs be accomplished within the context of a Christian community where each person student teacher administrator and staff member is seen and valued as a child of God and where truth and the freedom which truth provides will ever be sought.
The Episcopal Day School is fully accredited by the Southwest Association of Episcopal Schools (SAES) and the Texas Private School Accreditation Commission (TEPSAC) a division of the Texas Education Agency.
Our school has two classes each of three four and five year olds and first through sixth grade students. Our Pre-kindergarten program is a half-day program with classes beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 11:45 for three and four-year-olds and 12:00 noon for five-year-olds. Early morning Day Care is available from 7:00 7:50 a.m. and afternoon Day Care is available at 12:00 noon and ends at 5:30 p.m. The school day begins at 8:00 a.m. for our elementary students and dismissal time for first through third graders is 3:10 p.m. and 3:25 p.m. for fourth through sixth graders.
In addition to the four core academic subjects of English Language Arts Math Social Studies and Science EDS students have Computer Music and Physical Education classes. We provide environmental education through our Nature Trail classes for 3K-6th grade every Friday on a rotating basis. First through sixth graders also have Beginning Intermediate or Advanced Spanish classes two days each week.
EDS students also participate in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. We have a strong chess program and many of our students and parents are active in Boy and Girl Scouts. Our students also compete in the Brownsville Association of Non-Public Schools Administrators (BANSA) Basketball and Track athletic competitions. EDS promotes a philosophy of providing students the opportunity to experience a well-rounded schedule of academic and extra-curricular activities.
