Kinderkirk believes that a high quality Early Childhood program provides a nurturing environment that promotes the physical, social, emotional, cognitive, creative and spiritual development of young children while responding to the needs of families. The major determinant of program quality is the extent to which the knowledge of child development is applied in program practices, and to the degree to which the program is developmentally appropriate. The concept of developmental appropriateness has two dimensions: Human development research indicates that there are universal, predictable sequences of growth and change in children during the first 9 years of life. Kinderkirk staff use their knowledge of the typical development of children from birth through age 6 as a framework to prepare the learning environment and plan appropriate experiences. Each child is a unique person with an individual pattern and timing of growth as well as individual personality, learning style and family background. at Kinderkirk both the curriculum and the adult interactions with the children are responsive to these individual differences.
