The Difference

What differentiates us from the traditional preschool or daycare? First we are intentionally designed to be a smaller more intimate early learning school. This atmosphere minimizes behavioral issues and is a great setting for very young children who usually don’t fare well in large institutionalized settings. We also maintain a very low child to caregiver ratio so the children spend their early years of life in an environment where each child is known and valued and are not just another “available spot”.

Also Hatch House enrolls children through an ongoing admissions process. Prior to enrollment all applicants (who are non-infants) must apply to enroll at the school. We seek children who exhibit a curiosity for learning and thrives in an early school setting that is creative and challenging. We also seek families who support the philosophy and mission of our school through their time or talents and thereby we foster a vibrant community for our children’s first school.

Hatch House is also not a franchise nor are we corporate operated; hence we are immediately responsive and flexible adjusting to the needs of the families in our care. Our head of school is an experienced master educator administrator and parent. Similarly our staff and teachers are certified experienced and demonstrate a genuine passion for the caring and education of young children.

The Advantage

We are also distinct in that we use a progressive curriculum with an emphasis on the arts and science at the preschool level. Social science research suggests that early exposure to these fields ignites (in even the youngest learner) a cognitive discipline and a confidence that will carry over to all aspects of their lives. The child who attends Hatch House School will explore traditional learning areas of literature language arts mathematics science technology music and foreign languages all in an age-appropriate and creative manner.

Our goal is that each Hatch House graduate will enter kindergarten exceeding prescribed norm standards but also exuding the social confidence and creative energy necessary to succeed in school and beyond we are preparing our future leaders.

The Approach

Our programs and teaching approach are modeled on research based best practices in early childhood education. Quite simply we utilize the best aspects of early childhood philosophies that are research based whole-brain focused and has a foundation in cognitive science-in sum we use what works!

Our educational philosophy is largely inspired by the early schools of Reggio Emilia Italy what is now commonly referred to as the Reggio Emilia approach. This educational philosophy purports that the wider the range of learning possibilities we offer very young learners the more intense will be their motivation to learn and the richer their experiences. Thus we use a progressive curriculum that assesses children regularly guides them towards achieving developmental milestones and then communicates these results with parents through our extensive parent communication process.

Communication with Parents

Effective communication with parents of children under our care is an underlying premise of our high quality programs. In order to facilitate this process we utilize both formal and informal opportunities to communicate with our partners— the parent.

Most importantly we invite you to drop-in at any time. But what if you can’t drop-in in person? Then do it online coming soon our parents login portal will enable you to visit from your work or home or wherever you can get to the internet. Our facility is prewired for this service and it will be operational later this year. Online viewing will give you or anyone you authorize (friends grandparents cousins) a chance to share in your child’s day.

Our philosophy is that the more you know about the care your child receives the more comfortable you’ll be and therefore we strive to include you in all areas of your child’s daily experiences.

Communication reports are sent home regularly (either daily weekly or monthly depending upon the age of the child). Moreover our parent family information board and reception monitor also streams information about upcoming activities events and other news. Each classroom also has a family bulletin board which helps you to stay connected with the daily acitivies in your child’s class. Progress reports are also sent home each semester for all toddlers through pre-K classes. Further parent-teacher conferences are also held twice per year. Finally our Hatch House Parent Association connects you with our other families for support networking and fun.
