First United Methodist Day Care Center

The Center is a developmental child care program which works with each child at his/her own level to encourage a healthy appreciation of self and to guide the child to group socialization. We believe that each child is a person of value and should have every opportunity to develop physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually in an environment that exhibits love and concern for each child by:

providing a save, loving environment that offers stimulating learning experiences;
respecting the individual needs of each child;
creating a climate of positive interaction between the child, his/her teachers and other children;
offering a compassionate response to the community’s need for quality, affordable child care for an increasing number of families with divers backgrounds;
encouraging a foundation of partnership between parents, child care staff and church members base upon mutual trust and recognition.
FUMCC strives to provide a welcoming environment where children learn and grow through hands-on exploration. Learning is accomplished through a combination of teacher-directed and child-initiated activities. We administer to the “whole child” through the use of individually appropriate activities, materials and equipment. We believe it is important to take time to observe and get to know each child in order to respond to individual needs and to provide appropriately challenging activities, allowing the child to feel good about themselves and to get along well with others.

Finally, we respect that every individual is rooted in culture and has a right to maintain his/her identity. The teacher and staff respect and understand the cultural influences that are interwoven in all aspects of a child’s live and strive to make the Center’s environment reflect the children’s background and experiences.
