Northshore Academy For Children

The North Shore Academy for Children offers preschool children a high quality full day program housed in a home-like environment. In this environment, a child is free to develop spontaneously and fully without trespassing on others and without being frustrated.

The Academy is licensed by the city of Chicago and the state of Illinois.

The educational program of the center is largely based on the instructional theories of Maria Montessori and modern child development theories. The major objectives of the center are to support and encourage children to:

Become creative and independent learners
Develop positive self-image, a sense of Community and of responsibility
Experience, explore and experiment with the world around them
Acquire competence in reading, writing and math

The didactic materials, popularized by Maria Montessori, provide sensorial-perceptual, cognitive preparation and care of the environment provides growth. Similarly, outdoor activities foster gross motor development as well as self-expression. The environment offers children semi-structured media such as paint, clay wood sand, etc. which they may use to experiment and create. Field trips provide experiences not available in the school setting.
